CENTURY IN REVIEW
HOW TO USE
1.Use items such as "In the News" (headlines) and
"On the Scene" (what was popular that year) from the Century in
Review cards. Place them in your newsletter or
include several on the printed menu for the week.
2. Highlight a decade for the month. Post the information for a particular
year in a place where visitors can see it. These make excellent conversation
starters.
3. On the older adult’s birthday, highlight what is "In the News"
from the year they were born. Introduce the activity while the residents are
waiting for the meal to be served. Then pick some headlines from the different
decades of their life. Encourage all of the residents to share their stories as
well.
4. Play a game of charades using the "On the Scene" items.
5. Describe one of the "On the Scene" items and see if anyone can
guess the item.
6. Make up a word unscramble game using "On the Scene" items.
7. Play a game - Guess the Decade! Read all the headlines for a particular
year, then give them 3 different decades and let them choose which one is the
correct decade.
8. Use the cards for a family and resident program or an intergenerational
program as conversation starters.
9. For memory fitness activity, read the headlines or the popular items for the
year before the meal. While they are enjoying dessert, see how many they can
recall.
